Our Story
Meet the Founder
Daniel Yabroski is a United States Marine Corps veteran, author, mentor, and founder of Grunts for Grunts.
After serving in the Marine Corps with deployments to Iraq, Daniel experienced many of the same struggles countless veterans face after service — isolation, trauma, loss of identity, and searching for purpose.
Years later, while working with youth, he recognized many young people were fighting battles of their own through broken homes, trauma, lack of mentorship, and hopelessness.
Grunts for Grunts was created to bring those two worlds together through the outdoors — helping veterans rediscover purpose while giving youth guidance, connection, and positive role models.

Location: Sycamore Island, Fresno, CA
Cost: FREE for Veterans & Youth
No Fishing License Required! (CA Free Fishing Day)
What to Expect:
- Learn the basics of fishing
- Fish with a veteran mentor
- Free lunch provided
- Real connection and mentorship
Space is limited. If you have a fishing rod, please bring it. If not, we can provide rods while supplies last.

Why This Matters
Many veterans struggle with isolation and loss of purpose after service. Many youth grow up without mentorship, guidance, or positive role models.
Grunts for Grunts was created to bridge that gap through outdoor experiences, real conversations, mentorship, and community.

The outdoors removes distractions and creates real connection. Around the water, on the trail, and in nature, conversations happen naturally.
For many veterans, the outdoors brings peace, purpose, and a sense of brotherhood that can be difficult to find after service. For youth, it creates an environment where confidence, trust, discipline, and mentorship can grow.
Fishing, hunting, and outdoor experiences are more than activities — they become opportunities to build relationships, heal, learn, and reconnect.
At Grunts for Grunts, we believe some of life's most meaningful conversations happen outside, away from screens, pressure, and noise.
